Plague in America

The United States has been plagued and the plague is spreading rapidly. A growing number of gun violence has been cast over America in the past several years. Our most recent big story was the killings at Sandy Hook. Why? Is there something wrong with the 2nd Amendment, which is the right to bear arms? Or, is there something wrong with Americans who get their hands on guns? There must be tougher accountability when it comes to bearing arms because the level of violence coming from firearms is staggering. The question is who should be accountable? Should James Madison be accountable for writing the Bill of Rights or the kid who gets his hands on his parents’ weapon and thinks it’s a toy and then accidently shoots and kills his friend? Or, should it be the teenager who steals “Daddy’s” piece and shoots all his classmates? Maybe lawmakers and the people who have the luxury of owning guns should be evaluated and not guns themselves.

There is no ideal solution to the recent outbreak of tragedies due to guns. However, there has been much debate over gun control. President Obama recently laid out plans to tighten policies already in place. He’s proposing criminal background checks on all gun sales, banning military-style assault weapons, limiting ammunition magazines and strengthening penalties for gun trafficking. In other words, this is supposed to make us feel better but it only puts a small bandage on the problem. There is too much of a divide on the issue of guns. Organizations such as the NRA with it’s two-plus million members, will fight tooth and nail to keep the 2ndAmendment on the front page of Americans’ minds.
