Victory Over Voilence exhibition at Laney Library

The Victory Over Violence exhibition was here at Laney on Tuesday, September 30th, and Wednesday and Saturday, October 1st and 4th. Victory Over Violence (VOV) is an exhibition that travels around to various schools and community events to educate and talk to people about different forms of violence, the root causes, and possible solutions.

On Friday October 3rd the campus at Laney College was alive and buzzing with activity more than ever. All morning from 10 a.m. until noon sharply dressed staff, volunteers and attendees were on the quad, at the art gallery and in the theatre, vying for their chance to network with entertainment industry insiders as the Fifth Annual Business Symposium hosted by the Laney College Business Department, got underway.

Breast cancer awareness

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and to show support and spread awareness about breast cancer on campus the Laney College Health Services is sponsoring a Breast Cancer Awareness walk on October 15. The Health Services is asking people to join them in the Quad at noon for the start of the walk.

Hannah's Cheap Eats: Cam Huong

On a busy street in Oakland's Chinatown, about 5 blocks west of the Laney College campus, lies a non-descript hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese "deli restaurant" called Cam Huong. Oh, Cam Huong, how your tofu sandwiches and spring rolls fill me with spicy delicious joy! I am certainly not the alone in finding great pleasure from their scrumptious cuisine; During lunch hours, the narrow hallway in front of the hot trays of stir-fries, noodles and other goodies is crammed with briefcases, youngsters, and many people of the Asian persuasion drooling in anticipation for the delightfully fresh French bread with yummy stuffing such as tofu, sardines, fish patty, and various types of meats alongside shredded cabbage, carrots, and cucumbers.

Autumn is the perfect time to explore the many ways that delicious leafy greens, such as Swiss Chard, can be easily prepared. For protein-hungry vegetarians and those with no patience for complicated dishes, a hearty chili with some greens is a simple way to keep you going for days, especially because the leftovers can be frozen easily.

Financial Aid back-up plan

Laney's financial aid students have a problem. They do not know when they will be receiving their financial aid or the amount. One source of the problem is the new Passport computer system implemented by Peralta and the other was the hold-up from the passing of the California budget.

League of Women Voter A League of Women Voters representative will be at Laney, Tuesday, Oct. 14 to talk about California ballot propositions for the Nov. 4 election. Will be held in EV #3 (portable) from 12-1 p.m. World Music Series John Schott and friends will be performing Klezmer music.

Hell yeah I did! I think it's a mockery though, what kind of special power do they have, they still will have to complain with the rest of us. It's like throwing pebbles at the Great Wall of China, you won't be able to knock it down. -Cameron Robinson Theatre arts No, I didn't see it, I was at my high school, but I always think it's interesting when student government does things like that, it's a good concept but I just don't think the entire student body is represented.
