Contemplating the future

For the first Fall '08 issue of the Laney Tower, I'm trying to think of what would be a good topic to write my first Editor-in-Chief column on.
I've got nothing.
I thought of talking about my summer, but that is in no way interesting. I thought about my new responsibility as the Editor-in-chief of the Tower, but then I thought, why would you, the reader, care about that? Thus, now getting me thinking, why would you the reader, care about anything I decide to write? Why are you reading this? I doubt that you know me, or that I know you; and if we do know one another, probably not very well.
So, again, why are you reading this? Why did you pick up the paper today? Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad that you did, I'm just curious as to why.
Everyone has different interests. My interests are probably very different than yours. Reginald James (the last Editor-in-Chief of the Tower) had very different interests than I also, and yet, he produced a great paper, and we had a good amount of readers and letters. Can I pull in enough reader's interest to make the paper as much a success this semester? Will the staff hate my editorial style, or will we be an unstoppable force, getting out information that students want and need to know. Will we make a difference in the school through the paper? Will you continue to pick this paper up, every other week, to see what is new?
Producing the paper is challenging enough, without the need to make it interesting to our readers. People are looking up to me for decisions of writing style, stories, photos, and direction. I'm looking to readers to help me answer the questions, making these decisions, and basing them on what is relevent and interesting to whoever should decide to read the paper that day.
This is again, where the differences of interest and style comes in. I think some things are interesting and exciting, while the reader may think it's boring and insignificant.
There I go again. Spouting of my worried ponderings and in truth, expecting no answers. So, I have a request for you, reader of the Laney Tower. If you read the paper, and find something that you don't agree with, or if you're bored and never want to pick up another issue, please write us and let us know, and encourage your friends to do the same. We succeed only if you are reading.
Thanks for reading.

Don't worry, you'll be fine. The paper will be fine. Good Luck in continuing to carry on the excellence behind the tower!

Yay Leah! I'm glad to hear you're carrying on in Reggie's place. You will be a sweet editor. I'll stop by the Tower soon and say hello; also have a story idea for you based on my experiences with transferring. (Continued…)
