Parking fees for Peralta college parking lots have gone up again. The board of Trustees approved the price increase April 22 this year.
This time, rather than the $20 a semester for Fall and Spring semesters, it is now $40 a semester. The ticket machines for single day parking are now charging one dollar compared to the $.50 from previous semesters. Summer semester parking permits will now be $20.
Starting Sept. 3 parking tickets will be issued to students who have not purchased either the parking placard, or the daily parking slip from the parking meters. Tickets for these violations will cost the student $40, while parking in a handicap stall will result in a ticket of $350.
The cashier office in the Laney college Tower building was not aware as to why the prices went up. Along with the increased fees will also come new multi-space parking meters to Laney, Merritt and Alameda colleges. Installation is now in process, and an announcement letter from the desk of Sadiq B. Ikharo, the vice chancellor for General Services, suggests that the meters will be operable in October of this year.
The new parking meters will accept bills as well as coins, are wireless, ADA compliant, and will be solar powered.
