While one sport looks to get better, another rejoices.
Despite finishing in third place and reaching 20 wins in the past two seasons, the 2008 Laney College baseball team looks to improve by next year.
"This season went okay, not great, because our goal was to make the playoffs and win a championship, but we finished in third place with a record of 21-18 in the Bay Valley Conference," Coach Francisco Zapata said.
"We have a good core of guys coming back, hopefully they can show new players what it takes, and help them to become better. We are always working to get better and are looking forward to see where our sophomores move on to."
In swimming the Laney College women's team had a strong finish.
Kim Bretz was all smiles as her team improved to third place at the Bay Valley Conference Championships held at Solano College on April 24, led by Deanna Tasi's record times.
"I was very pleased with the season; we had a good group of girls with positive attitudes to work with. They put a lot of effort into the competition," Bretz said.
