Abstract:
The advent of young black men 18-25 years of age dying at an unprecedented rate, particularly in Oakland, caused Shawn Ginwright, Ph.D., associate professor at San Francisco State University to ask himself, "What's the use of my degree if I can't save my brother's life?"...

It has been widely reported that witnesses came and went and it was clear word of the attack was going around during and afterwards but only one person called 911. Sure, it is reasonable that someone couldn't have done anything to stop the attack with so many participating and approving but the approval and indifference of those who knew of the attack is utterly intolerable.
To make matters worse, there are students who have threatened others trying to find the recordings and pictures of the assault for evidence or from coming forward with information. Some ignorant thugs have even reportedly said that if the accused go to jail they will harm the victim when she returns to the school.
Those who cheered the gang rape (and likely prevented anyone from stopping it) should be charged with aiding and abetting and those who recorded it should be charged with the production, possession and distribution of child pornography but it doesn't appear that they will be.
No ethnicity is immune to the brutal and sadistic mentality that gives rise to these kind of attacks and the roots of this sort of depravity can be found in the communities that tolerate them.
